I am predicting that 10 years from now .. The younger generation will ask us “What was a Blackberry?” and of course we would respond “it was a preliminary to what we have today , much like 3.5″ floppy disks”.
Sad but true, I see a dismal future for RIM (the company that makes Blackberry). A couple of news reports have caught my eye which are sensing that the “cool” factor of having a blackberry has been gone for a while. Not to mention everyone of their phones just seem outdated in hardware, software and internet connectivity.
To start off they lost the number one spot for smart phone marketshare in the US to Android this year – http://www.comscore.com/Press_Events/Press_Releases/2011/4/comScore_Reports_February_2011_U.S._Mobile_Subscriber_Market_Share
Obama thinks Blackberrys are lackluster (see definition of Lame) – http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/73083
I sense denial in the co-CEO of Blackberry with these constant reports that the companys still “got it” – http://news.cnet.com/8301-30686_3-20054451-266.html
Along with this, the main reason people think RIM has a future is that “they invented mobile email!” …
Just my thoughts, the real action is between Google’s Android and Apple’s IOS platform. I have used both (and own a Android phone) and I have to say they are both lightyears ahead of my old Blackberry
