Well I had a Nexus 4 which was wireless charging capable but I never had a wireless charger so I never used the function. Fast forward 3 years later and now I have a iPhone 6 Plus which is a great phone but recently I have been going through lightning charge cables like toilet paper … they never seem to last very long before becoming frayed or broken.
This is when I started searching for converting the phone to Qi wireless charging. My search didn’t take long as if you search Amazon for iPhone 6 plus Qi charge kits, a whole bunch come up. I bought a kit from Vilight and also an additional wireless charger for the office from Foneso.
The kit was pretty straight forward, take off your case, plug in the Qi charge receiver and place your case over it.
Supposedly Qi has a close to 2 inch range for charging but from my test with thick cases, this didn’t seem to be the case. I tested many cases from my case warehouse and most of the thick waterproof style cases didn’t work. This means for the Qi upgrade you will need to run the silicon or slider style hard cases.
(I have too many cases, some for my other phones)
This is the style of case you need for Qi Charging.
Overall this upgrade has been big on convenience and made sense economically as the charge kit was $30 and the additional wireless charger was $20… as opposed to going through $10 lightning cables every month , this is a good upgrade! This also works on all iPhones with lightning ports from iPhone 5 to the new 6S
Overall Nathan Wan rates this 4 stars
